The exhibition “Women in Dior, Portraits of elegance” at the Musée Christian Dior in Granville, Normandy, and the new book accompanying it, pay tribute to the women, both anonymous and famous, who have worn the creations of the house of Dior. A woman's clothing suggests a lot about her personality, mutely communicating information for the observer to decipher. With Christian Dior as couturier, then with his successors, the beauty of the clothes has seduced a multitude of women who found in the architectural lines a way to express their own individuality. Elegant figures have been the result, since 1947, and intimate relationships have been forged as creations have left the charmed world of the ateliers to play their part in key moments of women's lives.
In the exhibition Women in Dior, Portraits of elegance, taking place at the Musée Christian Dior in Granville, located in the couturier's childhood home, dresses, photographs, paintings, drawings and letters evoke the elegance of these women, as the selection and presentation of the outfits illustrate the events of lives spent in Dior. Through the book Women in Dior, Portraits of elegance, written by Laurence Benaïm, the fashion-specialist French author and journalist, one gets to discover the tastes and memories, the day outfits and evening dresses of a number of celebrities and House friends, including Marion Cotillard, Jacqueline de Ribes, Mitzah Bricard, Princess Grace of Monaco, Edmonde Charles-Roux and Natalie Portman.
The exhibition will run until 25 settembre 2016.
